Becoming a Leader of Influence

When you are in a leadership position, you will inevitably influence the climate and culture of your team - regardless of whether you intentionally do it or otherwise. Even when a leader does nothing in a particular situation, the act of doing nothing can influence others to behave in the same way. Leadership By Example is not a choice — everyone will follow your example whether it is good or bad. The more important question then is — What example are you setting for your people?

Great leaders are the ones who understand the kind of impact that they have on others, and they intentionally motivate and inspire others to take positive action. The best leaders are able to influence up, down and sideways - getting people on their side as they drive real change in the organization. They go beyond giving lip service about change because the way they think, act and behave embody the change that they are trying to bring about.

In this program, we will explore key aspects that impacts the amount of influence that a leader has. These include Trust, Style, Preferences, Unconscious Bias, Filters as well as the way one responds to Pressure. In addition, we will provide participants will a toolkit of strategies to persuade and influence people at all levels of the organization.

Participants at all levels in the organization, including individual contributors who need to display leadership when influencing their peers, will find this program highly practical and beneficial.

Program Content
During this one-day program, we will discuss the following topics:

  • Authenticity - Your Public and Private Face
  • Building Trust
  • Understanding differences in Thinking and Working Styles
  • Uncovering our Unconscious Biases
  • How our Filters impact the way we view others
  • How Pressure impacts our Judgments
  • Persuasion & Influence Toolkit
  • Building a culture of Trust, Openness and Inclusiveness

The learning will be done mainly through interactive simulations and games. Lectures will be kept to a bare minimum because they are just boring! Participants will reflect through these fun activities about how they can become more authentic and inclusive leaders. It will be a engaging and very enjoyable workshop.

The program will be facilitated by Lim Poh Guan, a certified In-and-out-of-the-Box™ facilitator. A highly energetic facilitator, he is also a Founding Partner of the John Maxwell Team as well as a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach.
